AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Gov. Paul LePage is leaving on Wednesday for a vacation with his family in Jamaica, the governor’s staff confirmed on Tuesday.

LePage embarked on the same vacation in March of last year. His spokeswoman Adrienne Bennett said the trip is an annual event for the LePage family, who several years ago in Jamaica met the father of a boy, Devon, who agreed to let him return to Maine to be raised by the LePages.

LePage had said he considers Devon a son and has provided for him, even though he was never formally adopted by the LePages.

Some lawmakers might take issue with LePage leaving the state near the end of a busy legislative session. Many of the most important and controversial bills that have yet to be resolved — including legislation on education and energy and the latest supplemental budget — originated from the governor’s office.
